Welcome to Newrosewan Grain Farm

Nichols Electric • Dec 12, 2022

📍 New Norway, Alberta

Growing up on a dairy farm near New Norway, Steve Cowan of Newrosewan Grain Farm learned from experience what it takes to sustain a successful family operation. But he often found himself intrigued by the science behind agriculture. What soil properties are optimal for a high yield? What are the best ways to get the desired characteristics of certain crops? How can pests be safely and effectively managed?

After high school, Steve took these questions and many more to the University of Alberta where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.

The combination of this practical and scientific knowledge has led Steve to where he is today — the owner and manager of Newrosewan Grain Farm and an Innovation Agronomist with Crop Management Network

But when Steve needs electrical expertise — for his home, farm or a Crop Management Network project — he knows the local team he can count on. That’s why Nichols Electric was one of the first calls Steve made when he purchased new land to convert into a grain farm.

Steve and his family will be the first generation on this grain farm, but have big hopes for its handling capacity in the future. With agricultural technology like remote monitoring and automation evolving the farming landscape, Steve appreciates the thought and intention Nichols Electric put into ensuring he can continue growing his operations down the road.

With years of experience and knowledge in this area, Sheldon Nichols and his team went the extra mile to lay a scaleable electrical foundation. From farming to fatherhood, Steve’s hands are full. Nichols Electric is proud to give him one less thing to worry about, so he can keep focusing on his family and farm’s bright future.

“Everyone knows, if you want it done right, you call Nichols Electric. Everyone on that team does immaculate, high-quality work. And when you’re as busy as me, a full-time father, farmer and agronomist, I can trust the work is being done right. I don’t have to worry about anything.”

For Scott Keller at Keller Farms, timing is everything during harvest season. Early snowfall can devastate a crop yield, so every year feels like a race against mother nature to get those grains harvested and into the dryer. Scott can’t control the weather, but he can avoid delays due to equipment breakdowns by working with reliable and efficient contractors like Nichols Electric.
